ARCHITECTURAL TECTONICS AND STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS

ARCHITECTURAL TECTONICS AND STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS

This course covers the basics of architectural structural systems i.e. construction methods and its relation to designing architectural spaces.

The primary objective of this module is to enable acquiring a broad general knowledge regarding one of the basic structural rules in architecture and to gain a fundamental understanding of tectonics in the structural field. Generally, tectonics is recognized as a term related to the technologies required to construct buildings such as structures, construction methods, materials, and details. In this module, we try to go a little further and think about how tectonics affects the designed space. Students will first pick up modern architecture that has an interesting concept or a specific program in the building or other design features and then describe the structure of the building.
